Feb 25,  · On "Everybody’s Talking", King Curtis is joined by Bernard Purdie, Billy Butler, Cornell Dupree, Billy Preston and the Memphis Horns. This funky effort is highlighted by the hits “If I Were A Carpenter”, “Groove Me” and “Ridin' Thumb”. "Everybody’s Talking" was one of Billboard’s Top R&B Albums. This is soul-jazz at its best.

Mar 21,  · King Curtis employed a powerhouse lineup on Everybody's Talkin', including soul-jazz luminaries Bernard Purdie, Cornell Dupree, Billy Butler, Billy Preston, and the Memphis Horns. As can be expected, the tunes here are relatively indicative of the times and range from greasy Southern ballads to more funky material.

2 later King Curtis classics for Atlantic – back to back on one CD! Sweet Soul is as the title might imply – a sweet take on the sound of soul in the 60s – as King Curtis turns his well-honed saxophone sound towards a number of pop and soul tunes of the time! The format here is slightly mellow – of the sort that would be a perfect instrumental backing for Aretha.
